The Power of a Press Release

power press releaseIf you have a service or product you are planning to present to the masses, or have reached a milestone in your business and feel it’s finally time to trumpet it to the world, you should strongly consider a press release. There is no vehicle more powerful for the wide circulation of your statement than the raw power found in a press release, and there is nothing better for a quick booster shot to your SEO.

Though press releases have been around for a while and have always been some of the sharpest tools in the marketing tool box, the unbridled ability of the Internet adds an exponent to their potential. Anyone can submit a press release, but if you have little experience writing and wish to receive the full benefit of a press release, it is best to hire a professional to write and release one for you.

It is well worth the investment to have a professional SEO writer articulate your message using the relevant keywords and submit it to the press release and article directories where it will receive the widest distribution.

What exactly does a press release do? A press release should contain the six following ingredients.

1. Contact information: this enables the press to contact you for a possible story, or for your potential leads and prospects to come to visit your site and see your services.

2. The headline: possibly the most essential ingredient of the press release. The headline is what makes the press release newsworthy. It is perfectly acceptable (and common place) for a sales pitch to be embedded in a press release, but the copy must be crafted as news.

3. An announcement. The first paragraph of the press release must contain a clear announcement. It cannot sound like a sales pitch, even if that’s the intention. Whatever you are promoting, it must be done from a newsworthy angle.

4. Relevant background. The remainder of the press release should provide a bit of pertinent background about the subject of the press release.

5. Quotes. A highly effective press release should contain at least two quotes. This places the subject on a human level, in addition to strengthening authority.

6. An appropriate finish. A properly written press release should conclude with a repeat of the company’s most relevant general and contact information.

SEO optimized press releases are fairly new in the field of search engine optimization, but that does nothing to dim their power. A properly optimized press release should include the most relevant keywords for your business, in addition to the links leading back to your site.

Once your SEO optimized press release is distributed, it will get picked by a wide variety of news sites and search engines. Each time a new site picks up the submitted press release, it reproduces the copy along with your keywords and links.

This has an exponential effect on quickly creating backlinks back to your business.

Quality backlinks are one of the key factors that Google and the other search engines use to determine a website’s ranking, and the origin of your site’s backlinks is important. When Google sees that your links are stemming from news sites, many of which have high page ranks, your business will see a definite boom to it’s bottom line.

Press releases are a fast track to a higher page rank. Order a press release today and start gathering the backlinks that will take your business to the top.

Is ghostwriting cheating? Is Ghostwriting the same as cheating? Well, if my daughter came home from school and told me she had accepted a fistful of dollars for doing another person’s work, or that she herself had parted with her hard won allowance to have the same done for her, my ire would most certainly be riled.

Yet this is precisely what I do for a living 90% of the time with a smile spread across my face. What’s the difference?

A ghostwriter by trade completes the work of another, then accepts a fair fee in lieu of credit. A ghostwriter’s clients claim authorship of content they didn’t create in exchange for money they would likely consider supremely well spent. Both sides are happy, instilled in a system that’s been in style ever since the days of Cyrano.

How is this different from my daughter doing the same thing in school? Do a few decades really delete the parallel?

A good ghostwriter must be  able to easily claim either side of an argument. So please indulge me, I’m about to rationalize.

A ghostwriter has a well defined relationship with his clients, deeply rooted in mutual benefit. One person provides a service while the other benefits from their craftsmanship – not too different from a caterer, tailor or architect.

Of course, one could argue  people rarely hire caterers and inherit the accolades for their cuisine, but on the other hand ghostwriters are rarely writing from nothing. They are most often starting from the thoughts, notes, drafts, or bullet points provided by their clientele.

Bottom line: there is a strong difference between the world of a child’s classroom and that of a writer’s desk.

Ghostwriting is a routine practice, globally acknowledged and regularly engaged in by politicians, celebrities and leaders of every shape and size. There is no stigma against the practice, as those people who hire ghostwriters are often simply employing a writer far more quipped than they to help synthesize the success they’ve had so that they may move it from one venue to another.

Yes, if my daughter did this I would most certainly see it as cheating. School isn’t just about rote memorization, it is about discovering who we are and how we learn. The last thing that any reasonable parent would want is for their child to learn early in life is that cheating is a rapid route to get from A to B.

Let’s face it, those for whom cheating is instilled as an early habit, might never develop the resources that would lead them to ever need a ghostwriter in the first place.
