Long Beach Writers
Long Beach Writers
I’m a professional writer living in Long Beach, Ca. I love Long Beach, finding the almost ceaseless sunny days have gilded my writing with a gleam I might never have found elsewhere.
Though I’ve loved writing my entire life, I never thought I’d grow up to be a freelance writer, and I especially never expected to become a ghostwriter.
Now, not only is what I do, it’s what I love.
Long Beach gives me a never ending source of inspiration. I’ve grown up in the shadow of Los Angeles and Hollywood, home of a million and one movies from Gone With the Wind to Pulp Fiction. I’ve gorged on cinema at every theater in Long Beach for as long as I can remember, always marveling at the dialogue and narrative structure more than anything else on the screen.
How could I not grow up to be one of the Long Beach writers?
Writing definitely gives me a desire to have wings so I can fly my eyes to other sights, but I doubt I will ever find another home like Long Beach. Writers living in this city are luck. I’m sure that as my children grow (I am a father of two, one about to enter Kindergarten) they will long to open their eyes to a million new wonders and I will be eager to ease them, but I will make sure they understand the beauty of where they come from.
Those of us in Long Beach are lucky. We have a Mediterranean climate for the majority of the year. We can see mountains or beaches, desert or rivers all within a short driving distance. What more could a professional writer want than access to the world’s varied topography, often within eyesight?
When I was little, long before the idea ghostwriting (or being a freelance writer at all) had entered my brain, I didn’t know how wonderful Long Beach was. I never truly appreciated the city until I fell in love with my wife, who wasted no time in telling me the error of my ways.
My wife was raised in the military and then grew up to travel and teach abroad. She has been in most of our states, many of the continents, and spent the majority of her life trying to get to California. She’s been here for a dozen years now and often reminds me of how wonderful it is to live in Long Beach, just south of Los Angeles, Ca.
Though there is no part of me that doubts this, should I ever forget the essential truth, I need only remember that she’s also the one who most encouraged me to become a ghost writer in the first place.
