How to Find the Ghostwriter that’s Right For You

the right ghostwriterFinding the ghostwriter that is the best possible fit for you and your project can be far more difficult than you might anticipate. Ghostwriters don’t generally advertise and you aren’t likely to find ghostwriters listed in your local phone book. Even if you do have friends or associates that are regularly using a ghostwriter, they may not care to admit it. And even if they are willing to confess, they may be reluctant to pass on information that may put them at risk of surrendering their secret weapon.

If you do have a connection who can put you in touch with a reliable ghostwriter, then you’re all aces, full speed ahead! If not, here some simple steps to get you started.

1) Perform an online search using “ghostwriter” in the subject box. You will have to filter through the search results. As with most search engine results, the top spots are often not what you’re looking for, or slightly gamed. Dig a little deeper and you will be able to make a short list of worthy contenders.

2) Visit various ghostwriter sites and review their portfolios. If a ghostwriter has an online site without any samples, you’re probably safe simply moving on to the next one. They don’t necessarily need page after page of content, but they should have something to offer other than an About Page.

3) Email the ghostwriter to initiate an introduction. Email is a tremendous first line of communication. Chances are, you will learn all you need to know about whether to proceed from that first email. Read between the lines for tone. By now you should be narrowing your list quite a bit.

4) Be specific with every ghostwriter you contact. The more detailed you are, the better job the ghostwriter will be able to do in helping you to determine if they are right for the job. Not just in personality, but in the precision of their experience with the specific type of content you wish to create.

5) Begin filtering your prospects to determine the best ghostwriter for you. Even if you started out with a fairly long list, by the end you should have it narrowed to only a few. Use all your cues and clues to arrive at the ghostwriter that is the best fit to help take your project to the next level.
