I definitely think content is the most important focus, but at the same time I feel that marketing plays somewhat of a huge roll as well, especially if you’re trying to get results quickly. But as to the content is king post, I definitely say that CONTENT IS KING, and marketing is more like the kings financial adviser, butler, or something. Ha ha ha.

“balance is the new king.” Quality content is absolutely necessary. If you just market without that, it’s like inviting someone to a store without anything worth buying. That said, the quality content needs to get in front of as many eyeballs as possible for maximum effect. While I believe we get lots of support from others in tweeting/promoting good quality posts, I think it’s smart to get out there and pound the online pavement ourselves too.

Most definitely both are king, one doesn't work without the other, but while content without marketing at least gives you a fuzzy warm feeling about your site, marketing without content will give you a bad reputation.
