Why You Should Hire A Ghostwriter
A ghostwriter is a professional writer, hired to produce a body of work without receiving credit for any of the finished product. The credited author contracts a ghostwriter to write their material because they lack either the time or skill to do the job themselves. A ghostwriter is usually paid in advance for their work. This is usually a flat fee and, regardless of the success of the material they produce, never receives a single royalty check for the life of the intellectual property.
Why would a ghostwriter be willing to do this? Is a ghostwriter deaf to the call of fame and fortune?
No, not at all. Many a ghostwriter is simply a professional freelancer with a specific skill set. A ghostwriter can sit down at the keyboard and produce in an hour what might take a full day for some. Everyone has their specialty. Just because someone can write their business model into an e-book and then sell it for a premium doesn’t mean they should.
It may be in someone’s best interest to hire a ghost writer who can get the job done in a few days, rather than the weeks it may take “the author.” If someone were to need fresh copy for their website, yet they were too busy with the daily grind of running their online business, it would make perfect sense to hire a ghostwriter to rewrite their draft, especially if the alternative is having a stale space sitting static and doing nothing to drive sales or generate new leads.
A ghostwriter in this instance is hired as a freelance writer, producing high quality copy that enhances the sheen of the website. Though it may sound odd that a ghostwriter would agree to write without credit, and that there are authors willing to hire a ghostwriter to write what they could write themselves. In reality this makes perfect sense.
I can mow my lawn just fine. It would probably take me about an hour if I set my mind to it. My gardener, on the other hand, is able to do the same job in a fraction of the time. He and I have an agreement. He comes twice a month, mows my lawn, and sends me a bill. I never have to think about a thing outside of admiring my grass and writing a check. In the time it would have taken me to mow the lawn, I’ve been ghostwriting web copy that has paid for the gardener and then some.
I am a ghostwriter because writing is what I do. Just don’t ask me to mow your lawn!
